Teacher (Grades K-4)

School Description: PAVE Academy Charter School prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students in South Brooklyn to thrive in competitive high schools and 4-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a school community built on the core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent character (PAVE). In August, 2008, the school opened its doors to 88 Kindergarteners and First Graders and will grow one grade each year until it reaches capacity in 2015 with a full K-8 program.

Position Summary: PAVE Academy Charter School seeks core teachers for grades Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade. Teachers will instruct ELA, math, social studies, science, an extracurricular course, and implement PAVE’s curriculum and assessment programs. Core teachers will report to the Instructional Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Embody and carry out the mission and vision of PAVE Academy
  • Implement a research-based curriculum in the core subjects (ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) with support from the Instructional Leader
  • Create and sustain a structured school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
  • Assume responsibility for the academic progress of students with a sense of urgency and ownership towards quantifiable results
  • Utilize IEPs to adapt instruction to reach the needs of students with disabilities in an inclusion setting
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with parents about student progress
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where respectful debate is essential
  • Lead school-wide meetings with the Dean of Students
  • Participate in staff orientation, weekly professional development, and events outside of school hours
  • Complete all lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and administrative functions with care and timeliness

  • The ability and commitment to use data and regular assessment to inform instructional decisions
  • At least two years of experience teaching in an urban school with demonstrated success
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills
  • Technological proficiency and adaptability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The desire to grow as an educator

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Substantial merit bonuses will be awarded each year based on student academic performance and other metrics established by the Executive Director.
