Is My Child Eligible?

Any resident of New York City expected to be a Kindergartener, 1st or 2nd grader in the 2009-2010 school year is eligible for PAVE Academy’s lottery. Our Kindergarten applicants must turn five by December 31, 2009.

Community School District Preference
All New York City Charter Schools must give preference to students residing in the school district where the school will be located. Students who reside outside of the district are eligible to enter the lottery and may be admitted if space permits.

Please visit the NYCDOE website at http://maps.nycboe.net to determine your school district. At the top of the page select your borough and type in your street address. If you are unable to access the website please contact the Office of Family Engagement and Advocacy at 212.374.2323. Please note that you will be required to show proof of residency to gain official admission to the school. Failure to provide this will result in losing your child’s spot in the class.

Sibling Preference
By law, PAVE Academy has a sibling preference policy. New York State law defines siblings as a brother, sister, or other child legally under your care and residing in the same household. If siblings apply to Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd Grade and one sibling gets in through the lottery, his/her sibling(s) automatically receive a spot in the school. You must complete a separate Lottery Application Form for each child. Please feel free to photocopy the Lottery Application Form and distribute it to anyone else you know may be interested.

How Can My Child Enter the Lottery?
To include your child in the lottery you must complete a Lottery Application Form. Please click here to download the Parent Brochure which includes the Lottery Application Form for the 2009-2010 school year. Please complete the form and mail it to us no later than than April 1st.

The public lottery will be conducted within the first two weeks of April.  Names will be drawn from a lottery drum until all 88 spaces are filled. Names drawn after that will be placed on a wait-list. If your child is selected through the lottery process you will have 10 days to sign a school contract to secure a spot.
